Imparting the Joy of Giving at SCS
The Development function at Clark is typical of independent
schools throughout the nation as its purpose is to advance the mission of the school and its programs by raising contributed income. This
is accomplished through the combined efforts of dedicated parent
volunteers, the Board of Trustees, faculty, staff, alumni, corporate partners, and a Development staff of two.
The hallmark of fund raising at Clark is that "giving back" is an assumed part of our culture that is taught to our students from the moment they start school. Through their SCS Learning in Deed programs they look forward to helping others in the community who are less fortunate. They also observe their parents as role models promoting the school's mission in any way they can. Children quickly learn that giving to others brings joy to both the giver and recipient and they do not want to be left out of the activities and enthusiasm. As a result, much is accomplished for the school and the greater community while having fun and building lifelong friendships. Its true - if you want to quickly become a member of the SCS "family" - join us as a volunteer at the next event or fund raising committee meeting!!
Each
academic year, significant annual giving dollars are budgeted and raised via the Annual Fund, an appeal to the
entire SCS constituency, and through major school fund raising events as well. They include: Kaleidoscope, a successful dinner
auction in its 31st year; Art for the Mind, a fine art show
and sale featuring local and regional artists; and the Golf Outing, an
end of the year golf event. In order to help provide the exemplary SCS education, the Development staff and the SCS community is charged with raising funds to close "the gap" between tuition revenue and the annual cost of the school's operation. Every student is subsidized by these efforts at around $1,000 each for that portion of the educational expense not covered by tuition.
The Development function also coordinates Go the Distance!,
the comprehensive capital campaign. In tandem with annual giving fund raising, it is responsible for coordinating the successful acquisition
of capital, endowment and major gifts to The Stanley Clark School.
